Hi my name is Ilona. I am a music educator with a Bachelor of Music from McMaster University, an Opera Diploma from Laurier University, and a Master's degree in Music. I also hold an Ontario College of Teachers certification from Brock University, which has provided me with a strong foundation in pedagogy and student-centred teaching. With 22 years of experience as an elementary music teacher and 23 years of professional performance with the Canadian Opera Company, I bring a blend of real-world artistry and classroom expertise to every lesson. I teach by combining classical technique with practical, accessible methods that help students build confidence, skill, and true musical expression. My teaching philosophy is simple: every student has a unique musical identity, and my role is to help them discover and develop it in a supportive, structured, and inspiring environment. Outside of teaching and performing, I’m also a mother and an avid traveller, this helps me connect with students of all ages on a personal level and understand the many ways music fits into a busy life.
