Hi, I'm Ian! I'm a guitarist, composer, improviser, and educator based in Toronto. I completed a Bachelor of Music at the University of Toronto, while also pursuing academic studies in music education. I am active as a freelance performer in the GTA, playing in a variety of musical settings ranging from jazz and indie rock to folk and contemporary creative music. I have also been active as a music educator since 2021, teaching guitar, bass, and piano to students of all ages and skill levels. As an educator, I believe that music learning should ultimately be a fun experience, and that students learn best when they have the freedom to explore the things that they are most passionate or curious about. I always strive to create a welcoming and judgment-free environment where students feel safe to express themselves, and I tailor my lesson plans to each individual student's goals, skills, and learning style. My goal is for students not only to improve their musical skills but also to discover and develop a love for engaging with music in all its forms.
